He has had many better results in terms of placing in the final classification. For example fourth places from Argentina 2012 and Germany 2013. But his best performance behind the wheel of Ford Fiesta WRC came last weekend during Rally Catalunya. Minimum time loss per kilometre behind the best factory drivers with top specs cars, active racing also during the last day of the rally, where not much was at stake. Martin Prokop didn´t move up from the eight position after the Friday leg, yet there is an excellent mood and satisfaction in the Jipocar Czech National Team after the Spanish rally.
Martin Prokop summarizes the weekend action on the Catalonian gravel and tarmac: "We managed both passages of Saturday's 50 km long special stage very well. Car and especially the tires worked great, our loss from positions in front of us was not big and we both were happy and highly motivated for the next two special stages of the day. After the morning section, I knew that in the second run I can try to push even more. Unfortunately during the second afternoon special stage the front left driveshaft stopped to work properly and also front differential broke, so we had to finish the day slowly only with rear wheel drive. This didn´t take us the will and power to push again during the last leg on Sunday. We fought for the best possible times and special stages results. We wanted to succeed on Powerstage but having the gravel gearbox in the car has cost us few seconds. Anyway 0,5 sec loss per kilometre is very nice ending of successful event. There was a stretch of the track where I had the best split time among all drivers in the both runs what makes me very happy and motivated. That was in quite difficult and technical passage where it couldn´t be decided with the power of engine or with loosing of self –preservation. I feel that the tests and trainings on the race track helped me to improve my driving style.”
Manager Quirin Müller adds: “Martin had very good rally here in Spain also last year. This year more factors as a good new tyres, improved driving style and being relaxed met and worked great together. It is obvious that under such circumstances we as a private team can chase a bit the factory team drivers. Latvala made no secret that he was pushing on his maximum, trying to push on Ogier so the top drivers were fighting until the last kilometre, not only getting the cars safely into the finish. Despite of that Martin and Jan were doing excellent stage results. The whole team is excited and we are looking forward for the final rally of this season in Wales. We hope that the weather will be rainy what will suit to our very soft gravel Pirellis. We will see in three weeks...”
