Martin Prokop and Jan Tománek 8th at Rally Argentina

Crew of Ford Fiesta WRC in colours of Jipocar Czech National Teams takes creditable 8th place from Rally Argentina and still holds 9th place in the overall classification of the World Rally Championship. Martin and Jan lost their sixth place from Friday to factory teams drivers Neuville and Mikkelsen during the Saturday leg, however they were still able to keep the pace with other fast drivers Kubica and Evans.

Martin Prokop reports about what happened during Saturday and Sunday legs: “Our aim was to fight against Evans and Kubica as we were in contact with them during Friday and the gaps between uswere quite small. I think that we drove some good times and personally I have a good feeling aboutour performance. Unfortunately we had some bad luck at certain moments. On Saturday morning I hit a small bridge in one of the water splashes and almost lost my left rear wheel there. After the hitthe rear diff didn’t work properly what influenced the handling of the car for the whole day. In the afternoon I missed one excursion because of heavy fog. After this mistake my chances to move to 6th place started to disappear. On the Sunday leg I tried to stay on the safe side, what was involved alsowith some technical problems with dampers which were suffering extremely this year in Argentina as the conditions were really rough. After several days of heavy rains the surface of special stages was  heavily damaged what was not good even for rally cars. I had broken roll bar on Sunday what didn’t help me at all. This years Argentina was really tough and rough what shows also the number of crashes and technical problems experienced by many drivers. To bring the car to the finish in onepiece, without bigger troubles and in respectable time was really not easy.”

Manager Quirin Müller also comments: “We had time splits in the rally car for the very first here in Argentina what is a result of our own development. The official split service is something what wecan´t afford because of high costs. I believe that this fact can push Martin a little bit forward andavoid frustrating situations when he doesn’t know how he is driving compared to other drivers he is battling with during the special stages. Both crew and car are messed up after this extreme rally so we hope to have them all back in shape for Sardinia, starting within only few weeks.
