After a three-week break, the carousel of the WRC spun again. This time, it was the legendary Swedish Rally with its challenging character of the surface. Compared to last year and its very special conditions, it was Sweden as we know it waiting for the competitors. Great snow banks, ice and unforgettable atmosphere. Martin Prokop and Jan Tomanek driving Ford Fiesta RS WRC weren´t missing at the start either. Martin Prokop started the Swedish Rally very well despite the trouble with gearbox. Due to a disorderly fan who ran across the track, Martin Prokop had to brake and lost fourth gear due to rapid gear change. Despite all the problems Martin fought on the front walls, just a few seconds from fifth place. His balanced ride brought him to the beautiful seventh place after the first day. The final day didn´t start the best for the Czech crew, in the words of Martin after the first stage: "We didn´t have good start, we didn´t go at a good pace and the time was bad." Thereby, Martin squandered the headstart he had on Mekks and Evans. As a result he had to ride SS20 on the edge of his current capabilities and skills to keep his sixth position. Jan and Martin fought like lions and all seemed like they would be able to keep their sixth position. Unfortunately, that did not happen. Czech crew flew off the track and it was to their big luck that they were able to continue the race.
Martin Prokop after an unplanned trip off the track: "We flew out in an incredible speed, I have no idea how we got back on track."
At the last stage, the powerstage, Martin retained the great 8th place, compared to his 9th place in Monte Carlo. Sweden 2015 was exciting until the very end and no one from the top 10 had nothing certain until the last minute.
The next race that will await the Czech crew is the Mexican Rally. That is ridden on gravel, a surface that suits Martin Prokop more and more. Let's see if Martin keeps his great in form from the beginning of the season.
Martin Prokop after the last stage: "I am satisfied with the speed we showed this weekend. We made some mistakes but after the disappointment in Monte Carlo, it is a good motivation for us."
On behalf of the full Jipocar Racing team and Fiona crew we thank all fans for the support. It motivates us greatly to be faster, more accurate and overall better next times. Keep your fingers crossed for Mexico.
