Martin Prokop didn´t finish Rally Finland

Crew of Jipocar Czech National Team Martin Prokop and Michal Ernst will unfortunately not reach the finish ramp of Rally Finland, the ongoing event of World Rally Championship. Broken water pump and following engine failure are the reasons why they had to withdraw from the race where they have performed very well so far. This happened on the first special stage of the Friday afternoon section, after ten very well driven special stages, from the ninth place of the overall classification.

Martin Prokop comments: “During the eleventh special stage I realized that something was wrong, because the engine temperature began to rise. We finished in slow pace and stopped the car, hoping to repair it for Saturday and being able to continue under the rule of super rally. Unfortunately, the engine damage is irreparable within the rules. Such an end is a huge disappointment for us, especially after how we performed here in Finland so far. I was feeling very confident with the car and it was visible on smaller gap behind the best drivers compared to the races at the beginning of this season. It is certainly also bad for our fans, I hope they liked our performance until the bad moment. We must keep now our heads up and begin with preparations and testing for Rally Germany, which will be held in three weeks and it is the first proper tarmac rally this year. "

"The disappointment is big for the whole team, but it is simply rallying with all its ups and downs. Withdrawal from the race after some technical issue is a situation we are not used to. It is for the first time in our WRC programme, if we don´t count the hot German Rally last year. What I'm obviously happy about is the progress that Martin has done lately and I am glad that those ten Finnish special stages showed that we are well on the way to further improvements that we will try to show in the next four World Championship races, in which we take part this year”, adds team manager Quirin Müller.
