Prokop and Tománek 10th at Rally Poland

World Rally Championship 2014 continued last weekend with its 7th event in Poland and after two racing days the crew of Jipocar Czech National Team Martin Porkop and Jan Tománek was 13th in the overall classification. The aim for the second half of the rally was clear – repeat good performance from Thursday leg and to stay in touch with Solberg and Paddon who were just few seconds in front of them.

“I tried to get into good pace as on Thursday afternoon at the very beginning of the rally because I was not satisfied with my performance on Friday, particularly on the stages at Lithuania. We had a really good set-up on Saturday morning and the day started quite well for us because with some contribution of mistakes of other drivers we moved into top ten of overall classification. But also we had problems and were close to withdraw from the race as we lost a screw from the wheel carrier and wheel was moving loose and could come off any time. Luckily we got into midday service where guys fixed the problem but unfortunately at the first stage of the afternoon section we hit a retarder and damaged one of the bonnet locks what resulted in opening of the bonnet in speeds over 120 km/h. At this moment we lost our chances to catch Henning Solberg so during the Sunday leg I was just holding my position and focused on finishing the rally on the safe side,” describes Martin Prokop and continues: “Extremely fast gravel rally here in Poland was totally different from the one in Sardinia where I was able to improve in slower technical sections. It is clear that I have to improve my performance in high speed and try to use some data and information from Poland for Rally Finland. I also have to heal my painful back what is actually by big handicap limiting me both physically and mentally. After long four days of rallying here in Poland I am totally ruined.”

Team manager Quirin Müller: “After long and demanding event we are heading home with just a single point but let´s be happy about it. The competition is huge and is developing and moving forward very dynamically. Also we as a private team are not standing on one point and Martin has improved his performance when compared with seasons before but to break into top ten among factory team’s drivers is nothing easy and effortless.”
