New season of World Rally Championship started with challenging Rally Monte Carlo and Martin Prokop with Jan Tománek from Jipocar Czech National Team remained at 9th position from the half way until the end of the race. Two points in competition of factory teams are still better than nothing, or than frustrating retirement because of alternator failure in 2014, but Czech team is not extremely satisfied.
“Of course we are happy to finish such difficult and demanding event in contrast to the last year. We came here for some points and we are bringing few of them back home. However I would better forget the last two days of Monte Carlo because our performance was not good enough and we were losing too much. In terms of ice hockey, we were hot candidates for substitution and leaving to locker room. I really tried to do my best, even on the edge of risk, but still was not able to go fast enough, in a good pace and ease what I did at the end of last season. My desperate catch-up resulted in several big moments, for example on Sunday when I touched a rock in quite high speed after the car lost good grip. But still the clue to go faster wasn´t found. Something is wrong and I don´t what is it by that time. It can be just me or some small flaw on the car. Both split times and my feelings from the car showed that we were losing too much on ascents what was never happening to me. On the other hand I am glad that this year’s crazy edition of Monte Carlo is successfully over because it was really tough and unpredictable in the eye of weather and tyre choice. In the previous years it was usually only two or three special stages that made problems with unpredictable weather and surface conditions but this year it was every single one. We had many dramatic moments by deciding the right tyres and trying to forecast the weather,” describes Martin Prokop.
Team manager Quirin Müller comments: ”We have finished for sure the most difficult rally of this season but the result is not exactly what we wanted it to be, although the competition was really big. Objectively we could have finished only one position higher, but better times would represent much happier start into new season. Now we have to keep working hard and get ready for Rally Sweden. We are planning some driving on snow in civil car in order that Martin gets good rhythm and strain.”
