Rally Sweden 2014 - another DNF for Martin Prokop

Martin Prokop and Jan Tománek from Jipocar Czech National Team finished the Rally Sweden at the same style as they started – with their Ford Fiesta WRC in the ditch. On Thursday morning they were able to get back on the road thanks to massive help of spectators, and during Friday leg guys managed to climb through the overall standings up to the 14th place. On the second special stage of Saturday afternoon section there unfortunately was no turning back as the car got out of the road into creek. Czech crew had to leave the competition from 12th place of the overall classification. In the same scenario as in case of Rally Monte Carlo, Jipocar Czech National Team is leaving the rally without points and finished event.

“There was a heavy snowing during the night and with every car on the track, the route was quicker and quicker. Fortunately we were no more the very first car on the road as on Friday so we could set better times and enjoy the driving a bit more. The first special stage of the Saturday afternoon section was cancelled and on the very next one I made a mistake when the back of the car went off the road and as the car flipped over, its front ended out of the track. We fell in such a muddy creek hidden under snow and ice alongside of the road. And as there was nobody to help us in the middle of the woods, it was the end of Rally Sweden for us. We spent a lot of time trying to get back but the only result was burned clutch and wet and frozen crew. Another shame after unlucky Monte Carlo, impact for the whole team, but what can we do, that is rally. We are racing in Mexico again within few weeks so we must hope that thirdly the season will be started successfully,” describes and comments Martin Prokop.

Manager Quirin Müller adds: “The conditions in Sweden were quite specific this year and many drivers got similar problems as Martin. Big misfortune for us, but at least the car is not badly damaged. Martin performed well and set some good times on Saturday, what can be a small satisfaction for us. We are without a single point after two races so now the whole team has to work hard towards Mexico where we desperately need to get good points.”

Next event of World Rally Championships is Rally Mexico, gravel, March 6th – 9th.
